This mixed methods evaluation of Barnardo’s supported lodgings provision, for young people who cannot live with their families but who are not yet ready for independent living, shows the importance of supported lodgings as a means of bridging a gap in support for young people transitioning to independence.
While supported lodgings can assist in reducing the use of unsatisfactory accommodation (e.g. bed and breakfasts), supported lodgings do not suit all young people, specifically those who want the freedom and anonymity of other settings.
