This Christmas, thousands of children have nothing to look forward to. You can change that.
Kidsmas is our way to help the most vulnerable children in the UK enjoy some of the season’s festivities - it’s a time for fun, laughter and creating lasting memories.
Children should be lying awake with excitement, not worrying about if there will be lunch tomorrow, the shouting downstairs or a poorly family member. Your help can ensure Kidsmas goes ahead this year, so no child is left wondering why Christmas just passed them by.
Kidsmas can take many forms, depending on what each child needs. It might be that they're feeling isolated or lonely, and need some fun brought to their lives. Or a family has no food or money to buy presents. If so, we'll make sure they have a Christmas meal and gifts. We'll even wrap them up and label them for parents to give to their children themselves.
With social distancing and local lockdowns measures, Kidsmas will be a bit different this year. But we'll do everything we possibly can to make sure every child enjoys some Christmas magic.
But we can’t do it without support from people like you. With the unique problems of 2020 it's going to be a big challenge, but your generosity can make a world of difference.
The delivery that rescued Christmas for four young children
It was just two sleeps until Christmas and there were still no decorations in eight-year-old Jayden’s home.
He had three younger siblings, one of whom was only a few weeks old – and his mum and dad were struggling.
Fortunately, the family’s health visitor got in touch with us expressing their concern – they said there was just nothing there, even the cupboards were empty. It was so close to Christmas, the local Kidsmas event had already been and gone.
But our project workers put together an emergency care package for the young family, with a Christmas meal, decorations, food vouchers and presents for them all, wrapped and delivered to their door.
Of every £1 we spend, 91p goes on our work. 3p on governance and pension costs and 6p on raising the next £1. When Barnardo's was founded 154 years ago, our vision was of a world where no child in need was turned away. In 2019-20 we supported work with 358,800 children, young people, parents and carers across the UK.
We’ll use the money you help us raise to ensure vulnerable children enjoy the magic of Christmas with Kidsmas events and parties this year, and help those who we believe need us most.
