Q. Do you take referrals?
A. We do take referrals for the individual work and the mentoring programme.

Q.How do you identify the young people you work with?
A. Young people accessing the project are identified mainly through referrals from Social Work, Education, Housing and other external agencies.

Q. What areas do you work in?
A. We work in the areas of Craigend, Garthamlock, Ruchazie, Cranhill and Wellhouse.

Q. What difference do you make?
A.
Some of the differences we hope to achieve are:

  • To enable young people to develop positive and supportive social networks through making more positive choices in terms of their behaviour, leisure time and social networks.
  • An increase in levels of community engagement through being involved with the project.
  • Young people participating in relevant influencing and decision making activities.
  • Families of the young people we engage with equipped to cope through receiving support and accessing our parenting groups.
  • Young people's risk taking behaviours are reduced through our direct programmes of interventions and resilience building.

Q. How do you know you’re making a difference?
A. We make a difference on several levels:

  • on an individual level: for example, we have enabled a young person who was homeless to access supported accommodation.  In addition to this we have generated a network of services to meet his needs.
  • on a group work level: for example, we have successfully worked with a group of girls who were on the verge of exclusion from school.  As a result of the groupwork their behaviour and attitude became more positive and their attendance at school improved.  The final piece of work from the group was to plan and produce a short video highlighting the positive and negative aspects of alcohol use.
  • we are also making a difference through giving support to other services.  One example is the support we’ve given to getting a youth club off the ground within an area where there were no youth services.  We are now working in partnership to try and reach the same objectives including reducing risk taking behaviour such as violence, drug/alcohol use and offending.
  • with the mentoring programme for example, one of our mentors helped a young person reduce his drug and alcohol use by encouraging him to adopt a healthier lifestyle.  This involved weekly mentoring sessions where he participated in healthier pursuits.
