Fundraising volunteers for Barnardo's
What does it involve?

You can volunteer your time to raise money for Barnardo’s and make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people in the UK. Volunteers can organise their own event or help at one of ours. Either way, you are bound to have a fun time and feel good about making a worthwhile contribution to Barnardo’s work.
Here are some examples of how we spend the money that fundraising volunteers raise for us:
- £50 allows a child to get involved in confidence-building activities such as sport, art or drama for a day
- £130 hires a minibus for a group of disabled children to go out for the day
- £1,000 buys a climbing frame for a family centre
Many volunteers are part of a Barnardo’s Helper Group (BHG) in their local area. BHGs are groups of volunteer fundraisers that hold regular fundraising events for Barnardo’s. The events range from coffee mornings and summer balls to tennis days and concerts. The efforts of some 200 BHGs help us to make a positive difference of the lives of the children and families in our projects. To get involved with your nearest BHG please email luen.thompson@barnardos.org.uk
Lots of our volunteer fundraisers choose to organise their own, one-off event in aid of Barnardo’s. These events come in many shapes and sizes; coffee mornings, race nights and car washes are all hugely popular with our supporters. We have put together a Fun’raising Information Pack which will tell you everything you need to know. There’s no need to wait, just download it now!
In particular, we are looking for fundraising volunteers who can organise their own Barnardo’s Big Toddle. The Big Toddle is a sponsored ½ mile walk for under-fives and we encourage as many individuals or groups as possible to hold their own event during the annual Toddle month of June- find out how!
Barnardo’s runs a host of fundraising events throughout the year that you may wish
to attend as a guest or volunteer. Find out more details of regional and national events.
Finally, if you are feeling adventurous, you may be interested in completing
a trek, marathon or other challenge event for Barnardo’s.
In their own words

"I have been a BHG member since 1981. Volunteer fundraising is a very cost effective
way for Barnardo’s to raise money and whenever I visit one of our children’s projects I am inspired
by the work that is being done for children, young people and their families. I feel proud that the
funds we raise in BHGs helps to make this work possible. We have a calendar of events and our last Christmas
fair raised £7,000 for Barnardo’s". Rachel
Rachel Hay is
currently the treasurer of Biddenden BHG (Barnardo's Helper Group)
in Kent.

"I chose Barnardo’s as my charity to raise funds for as I admire the work they are undertaking
with children and youngsters. I have children of my own and my wife and myself do our best to bring
them up to be kind, caring and thoughtful about the needs of others who are not as lucky as them. It
is a great comfort to know that there is an organisation that understands what is happening out there
on the streets, that is doing its utmost to help these vulnerable youngsters to overcome these difficulties.
Raising money to help fund this work, is a way of my family being ever thankful for our children and
trying to help those who have not been so fortunate". Johnny
Johnny
Johnson of South Wales has run marathons in Cardiff, London and
Paris in aid of Barnardo’s. Last year, Johnny ran seven marathons in seven days and encouraged pupils
from local schools to run part of the way with him, raising a wonderful total of £2,600. Johnny has
won awards for his commitment to fundraising for us.
