Children's Services Manager
Hello, my name is Ivan Sharpe and I am Children's Services Manager of a fostering service in Barnardo’s. I have been working for Barnardo’s for nearly 20 years. I have been asked to say a few words about what is good about working for Barnardo’s. I suppose I could sum it up quite easily in one word, “opportunity”. That is being given the opportunity to develop new work, the opportunity to be creative in the way we work with children and families, the opportunity to be social workers rather than case managers, we can see a task through.
With these opportunities comes the support we need to work effectively with children and families. I am not just talking about the financial support for our services but the other support we need to continue to work to our abilities and potential.
There is also the variety of the work. Barnardo’s works with a wide variety of service users in a variety of ways. We work at a national level influencing on national issues and legislation, and at a local level working with communities providing local services for local people.
