Hello, my name is Gerard Cousins and I am Director of Retail and Trading. I joined Barnardo's in June 2002 because I wanted to work for an organisation that cared about its work force and actually worked for a cause, that cause being... 'Believe in Children’.
Within retail, our primary task is to operate commercially and raise funds/profits through our dedicated team of staff and volunteers in our 360 retail stores. The money we raise is used to help fund the work that my colleagues carry out in Children's Services.
Our work is different everyday, as we never know what donations we are going to receive. Our work force of volunteers are fantastic and come from all walks of life, from the student working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award, to those working towards achieving an NVQ in Retailing and of course those who wish to give something back to their community and spend a number of hours in one of our stores each week.
