Gerard Cousins
Head of Retail Operations, South of England
Hello, my name is Gerard Cousins and I am Head Of Retail Operations for the south of England. I joined Barnardo's in June 2002 because I wanted to work for an organisation that cared about its work force and actually worked for a cause, that cause being... 'giving children back their future'.
Within retail, our primary task is to raise funds for the organisation through our dedicated team of staff and volunteers in our retail stores. The money that we raise is used to fund the work that my children's services' colleagues do.
Our work is different everyday, as we never know what donations we are going to receive. Our work force of volunteers are fantastic and come from all walks of life, from the student working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award, to those working towards achieving an NVQ in Retailing and of course those who wish to give something back to their community and spend a number of hours in one of our stores each week.
