Frequently asked questions

Pupils and parents

Q. Will this help me get a job in the building industry?

A. Yes. You can take two routes when you leave school and Windermere.

  1. You can take your completed portfolio to a local college and they will be able to apply the A.P.L. rule to any work completed and take this into account when placing you on a course.
  2. You can take your completed portfolio and any photograph to a prospective employer who will be able to see that you have completed some practical and written work as well as having the ability to study a course. They can also apply to Windermere for a reference about your work and attitude when with us.
Q. Do I get a certificate at the end of the course?

A. Yes. Every unit you successfully complete will be recognised by both the C.I.T.B. and the City and Guilds.

Q. Will this make me a fully qualified painter, carpenter, bricklayer etc?

A. No, but it will give you a foundation to build on. We have not got enough time to cover all aspects of the trade, but you will sample aspects of a number of trades, giving you the opportunity to choose the career that best suits you, and that you enjoy the most.

Schools

Q. Can you provide regular reports on attendances and progress?

A. Yes. We will provide the schools/projects with absences on the morning by 10.30am, and end of term reports on overall attendance and progress towards units achieved or working towards.

Q. Do I have to send groups of pupils or can I send singular ones?

A. Yes. We will endeavour to find the best group to settle them with, to give them both the very best opportunity and experience.

Q. Can I send female pupils along?

A. Yes, everyone is welcome and the project has all the facilities necessary to cater for both sexes.
