Barnardo’s Windermere Construction Centre works with schools and units in several South London boroughs offering work related learning in Key Stage Four. Courses are tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual young person and are fully accredited by the Construction Industry Training Board and the City and Guilds.

Historically Barnardo’s offered young people the opportunity to learn skills that would equip them to earn a living. Today Barnardo’s Basis and Value statements promote the concept of recognising each individuals unique worth and also ensuring young people a stake in their society/community.

Alternative education offers young people a chance to raise their self-esteem through succeeding in a practical based education setting. This new found confidence can assist them to move on into the world of work.

Barnardo’s runs several training and alternative education centres, though Windermere is the only centre offering services to Key Stage Four pupils.
