Q. What does the service do?
A. It is a children's rights, disability and inclusion service. The Knowsley centre offers family group meetings, independent parental support, advice and information, inclusive play and leisure support services, support to local Sure Start programme in Huyton and a children's rights worker. The Halton centre supports children with additional needs to access local mainstream play & leisure facilities.
Q. How can I be a volunteer?
A. The service recruits volunteers in both Halton and Knowsley. We are currently recruiting volunteers in both boroughs.
Q. My child has been diagnosed with a disability where can I get advice, information and support?
A. Contact us and speak to our information and advice worker who will assist you in finding the appropriate support.
Q. What are my child's rights and benefit entitlements around their impairment. Where can I get support in completing forms relating to my child?
A. Contact us and we can assist you in finding out your entitlements and can help you to complete relevant forms.
Q. What are the local play and leisure opportunities for my disabled child?
A. Our play and leisure workers at both centres can discuss the best options available for your child and give support to enable them to access these.
Q. What are children's rights?
A. The children's rights service helps to ensure children and young people looked after by the borough of Knowsley know their rights and are treated fairly. The Children's Rights worker can offer information, advice and support by telephone or by visiting young people at a venue of their choice. They can also act as an advocate for children and young people. Please contact us to find out more.
Q. What are family group meetings?
A. Family group meetings are organised by a family group co-ordinator to bring together children, adults and professionals to make a plan for the family that will help the child and the family meet their needs.
Q. My child has special educational needs and is having difficulties at school, what can I do?
A. Contact the Knowsley Independent Parental Support (KIPS) workers at the service who can advise you on educational matters. They can also act as advocates for you and your child to help you get the right kind of support at school.
