About volunteering for Barnardo's Scotland

Volunteers help Barnardo's Scotland in a variety of ways. They volunteer directly with children and young people, in our shops or offices, or raise vital funds. Depending on your interests and skills, we can make sure that you find the right volunteering opportunity to suit you. We also have special opportunities for employee volunteering, young volunteers and university students.

Why do people volunteer?

There are many reasons why people choose to get involved. Here are just a few:

  • to support Barnardo's Scotland's work as a charity
  • to do something inspiring and for a worthwhile cause
  • to meet new people
  • to learn new skills and improve their CVs.

Lynda Bellingham (pictured; right), actress and Barnardo's Ambassador encourages people to think about becoming a member of a Barnardo's Helper Group.

All children deserve the best start in life and the opportunity to reach their full potential. By becoming [part of] a Barnardo's Helper Group you will become part of an extraordinary organisation which believes in the potential of every child, and the funds you raise will go towards the many local services which support children and young people. You and your group could help turn a child's life around." - Lynda Bellingham

If you speak to people who already volunteer, they will tell you that they do it because they love it.

"It gives children opportunities that make a real difference to their lives- doing activities that many take for granted.' - Michaela, worker at Hopscotch Perth & Kinross

"It’s good to work in a happy environment and helps to fill my day.' - Euna Russell, Volunteer, Elgin store

So why not help vulnerable children and young people, and have some fun at the same time!
