Cumbria children's centres
Childrens Centre Developments from April 2008
Cumbria County Council is putting in place a radical plan for the way its children’s centres will be managed in the future. Each community in Cumbria will have its own children’s centre and the council has asked different organisations to bid for contracts to manage centres across Cumbria.
Barnardo’s has recently been awarded the contracts for 13 centres in:
- Allerdale: North Allerdale, West Allerdale
- Carlisle: Carlisle South, Carlisle West, Carlisle North, Longtown, Brampton
- Eden: Middle Eden, Kirkby Stephen, North Eden
- South Lakeland: Lakes, Kendal, Sedbergh/Kirkby Lonsdale
Barnardo’s plans that all its centres will provide services to children up to 8 years old.
Children’s centres are in 3 phases: phase 1 centres are already well established, phase 2 centres should become operational from April 2008 and phase 3 centres must start delivering services by April 2009.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Barnardo’s to help improve the early identification of children who need extra help and to work closely with other local providers of services (e.g. health, employment/training, childcare) building on our existing work in Cumbria.
We have a range of new employment opportunities for staff with relevant experience who want to prioritise children’s rights and are determined to make sure the families they work with are included in their communities, regardless of where they live.
