Daniel's day

When will he reach breaking point?

Today? Tomorrow? Daniel desperately needs a break, before it’s too late. Just like the other 175,000 children caring for a sick or disabled member of the family.

7.42am

After waking up exhausted, Daniel checked that mum didn’t have an epileptic fit in the night.

8.15am

Daniel prepared his mum’s vital medication and got his little sister Anne ready for school.

9.21am

Daniel’s got told off for being late again. His teacher didn’t know it that it was because he was helping his sick mum.

10.03am

Daniel desperately waited for lunchtime so he could phone his mum and check she was ok.

11.24am

Daniel spent the whole of maths thinking about how to pay the gas bill

12.48pm

At lunchtime, a worried Daniel phoned home to check his mum hadn’t had another epileptic fit.

1.09pm

Daniel wanted to go home because he didn’t think his mum could cope on her own at home.

2.20pm

Daniel wanted to know if mum would be well enough to eat, so he would know how much dinner to buy on the way home from school.

3.37pm

Instead of playing after school, Daniel picked up his sister and headed home to look after his mum.

4.12pm

Daniel bought dinner for the family (avoiding bullies on the way home).

5.27pm

Daniel had to cook and look after his 6 year old sister Anne at the same time.

6.15pm

Daniel looked after his mum as she washed just in case she has another epileptic fit in the bath.

7.24pm

Daniel put his little sister to bed and prepared his mum’s vital medication.

8.45pm

Daniel chatted to his sick mum for an hour to try and cheer her up, then cleaned the house.

9.03pm

An exhausted Daniel helped to put his mum to bed, and he still hadn’t done his homework.

10.34pm

Daniel’s lay awake in bed, worrying his mum would have an epileptic fit in the night and that he’d mess up her medication in the morning.

11.45pm

Daniel still couldn’t sleep

00.34am

Daniel woke up scared and went to his mum’s room to check she hadn’t had another epileptic fit.
