Working with children and young people

It is a sad fact that over 130 years since Barnardo's started working with children many are still at risk from many forms of abuse and harm. Anything that has the potential to damage or limit the future development of a child is a reason for us to help.

We believe the future of our society depends on children and that they should be protected from harm, should enjoy good emotional and physical health and feel like they belong in their home and community. It is never too early or too late to offer a helping hand and to give the most disadvantaged children and young people the chance of a better childhood and a brighter future.

You can find out more about the work we are doing with children and young people in this section - for example, Barnardo's supports children and young people who are young carers, supporting a sick or disabled relative. We give young carers the chance to be children, by giving them some play time and support such as helping with homework. Other issues we support children and families with are homelessness, sexual exploitation, substance misuse and more. Help us to ensure we can continue to help the most vulnerable children.
