Working with communities

council estate

Barnardo’s believes that all children and young people have a fundamental right to be a part of communities, groups and activities which enrich them. For us, this means that all children, regardless of race, disability, gender, religion or sexual orientation should be included fully in every aspect of community life.

Barnardo’s works in both urban and rural communities with local people, groups and organisations. This enables the whole community to work in partnership to identify a neighbourhood that needs help, what needs to be done and how change will be achieved. Our work empowers communities to make decisions and influence others and ensures that high-quality and affordable services are delivered to communities.

We have worked with communities in Glasgow since 1995 with the aim of promoting the active participation of children in community life. We have worked with a class of 11-year-olds, helping them to identify issues in the community that they feel strongly about and to devise solutions that will contribute to local regeneration.

Why not find out about some of our other areas of work with communities or donate to ensure that Barnardo’s can continue with our vital community work.
