Barnardo's Scotland - Scottish Committee Members

Barnardo’s Scottish Committee oversees the development of the children’s charity and promotes and advises on all areas of its work such as the direction, finances, influencing, marketing and risk management.

There are seven members of the Scottish Committee of whom two are members of the Barnardo’s UK Council.

Gill Stewart - Gill took early retirement from the Scottish Executive in 2002, where she worked in a variety of policy jobs in the Education, Environment and Justice Departments, latterly heading up the Children and Young People’s Group.

Kit Pawson - Kit has been involved with Barnardo’s in a voluntary capacity since 1981: Aberdeen Barnardo's Helpers Group; Regional Chair for Scotland until 2005; Chairman of the Barnardo’s Appeals Advisory Board UK from 2000-2005 and a Trustee since 2005.

Jinty Moffett - Jinty has a legal background and has been involved with a number of voluntary organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau and working as an advice worker at the Edinburgh Sheriff Court.  She is also a Lay Reviewer with NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.

Susan Stewart - Susan has 20 years experience in journalism and public relations.  She is currently the Director of Corporate Communications at the University of Glasgow.

Tim Huntingford - Tim Huntingford held a number of local authority social work posts before becoming Director of Social Work in West Dunbartonshire in April 1997.  In 1999 he became Chief Executive of the Council, a position he held for over 7 years.  He retired from West Dunbartonshire Council in October 2006 but has continued to take an active interest in the welfare of children and young people.  He is currently chair of the Renfrewshire Child Protection Committee.

George Hunter - George Hunter began his career as a social worker in Airdrie in 1973.  He held a variety of posts before moving to East Renfrewshire Council in 1995 as Head of Community Care.  He became Director of Social Work in 2001.  In 2005 George became Director of the East Renfrewshire Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP).  In this post he was responsible for both local authority social work services and primary health care services including GPs, pharmacists and opticians.  George took early retirement in 2007 but still works as a part-time consultant to local authorities and health authorities in Scotland.

Ian Hart - Ian was appointed Senior Partner in the firm of Hacking and Paterson in 1990.  He is the longest service Children’s Panel member in Scotland, having been involved for 35 years. He has been chair of East Dunbarton Panel for 7 years and is presently serving as Chair of the Chairman’s Group for Scotland.  Ian is also involved with Kibble as Vice Chair of their Intensive Fostering Service.
