Building new homes for the local community
The planning for this programme began in 1997. In 2001, 72 new affordable homes were created on the site and in June 2010 we were granted planning permission for our new headquarters.
The current phase of residential homes on the site follows extensive public consultation and discussions with local residents which highlighted a number of suggested improvements to the scheme. Where possible these improvements were incorporated in the final plans.
In July 2011 we submitted our planning application to the London Borough of Redbridge and these revised plans, supported by local residents, were approved. In fact, our consultative approach to the planning process was commended by the London Borough of Redbridge.
Work started on the first phase of the development scheme in June 2012, providing 144 new homes. These homes ranged from one bedroom apartments to four bedroom family houses.
Work is underway on the final phases. The old head office site will see a development of 32 new homes, consisting of apartments and family houses and the cottages around Barnardo’s Village Green are being renovated into 34 new homes consisting of one and two bedroom apartments.
