Author : Victoria Butler (June 2011)

Price : Free

An examination of illegal school exclusions: the reasons for illegal exclusions, the impacts on the child and their families and detailed recommendations to avoid illegal exclusions.

This research was commissioned by the welsh Government, undertaken in partnership with SNAP Cymru and involved speaking to 52 families and 15 education professionals in different regions of Wales. It details the experience of illegal school exclusions and outlines the emotional and practical impact that exclusion has upon the child and their families, as well as upon learning outcomes. It highlights the reasons for illegal school exclusions before offering detailed recommendations to avoid illegal exclusions. Unfortunately this report is not available in a Welsh language version.
