Aims and objectives of the BabyFather Initiative
To encourage responsible parenting amongst black males in the UK, in particular those who are separated from their children. This will be achieved by the following:
- providing workshops and other activities designed to assist black males in having better relationships with their children and significant others in their lives
- organising conferences and other forums to raise awareness and understanding of the issues within black communities and amongst professionals and policy makers
- providing information and advice
- promotional activity to help breakdown the negative stereotypes of black fathers
- working in collaboration with other organisations within the field
- supporting black men in prisons to maintain contact with their children and to manage the separation
- providing workshops and other activities for children and mothers to enable sharing of their issues
- supporting and developing mediation and reconciliation initiatives
