Barnardo’s Scotland response to concerns about the Named Person The Named Person is not some form of ‘state guardian’ and will not be a new person in a child’s life, but merely a stronger role for an existing member of staff, usually a teacher or health visitor. The new system should ensure that the Named Person has the information they need when issues first appear in a child’s life, so they can support the child and their family before problems become severe.
