Campaigning and lobbying
Barnardo’s develops evidence-based policy to influence Parliament and Government. We use research evidence and the knowledge gained from our direct work with children, young people and their families to campaign for change on their behalf.
Barnardo’s Policy and Research Unit produces campaign reports, summaries and briefing papers for decision makers (politicians) and opinion formers (the media and the public). We also respond to Government consultations, brief and meet with Parliamentarians, organise lobbying activities and work closely with civil servants through all stages of the policy making process.
Barnardo's campaign areas:
- Child poverty
- Children and families in the asylum system
- Children in trouble
- Sexual exploitation and child trafficking
- Mental health
- Education
We try to concentrate on specific work areas so we can be more effective in our campaigning and influencing. We use the expertise and knowledge of Barnardo’s service staff and users to campaign for better care for children and to champion the rights of every child. We campaign on the basis of what works and what matters, for today’s families throughout the UK.
Barnardo’s UK Director of Policy and Research, Julian Walker
