Phil’s story*
Phil was known to the local youth offending team by the age of ten and was permanently excluded from school at 14. He got into more trouble with the police, was bored and became friends with troublemakers. Thankfully, attending Barnardo’s Wheels project in Birmingham for the last three years has helped Phil turn his life around.
How Barnardo's helps
Barnardo’s runs projects that help stop the cycle of crime and reoffending. We also help those who are at risk of involvement in such activity, such as supporting children in care and preventing school exclusion before it begins.
Work in this area is varied and includes:
- parenting programmes to help a family deal with their child’s behaviour
- providing activities to positively engage young people in their communities
- supporting the educational needs of a child
This work can only continue with your support.

Did you know?
Children who are most at risk of criminality and antisocial behaviour are entrapped within a cycle of disadvantage – they come from the poorest families and communities, have the poorest educational experiences and are more likely to suffer from poor health.
