Lucy’s story*

Lucy began getting into trouble from an early age and was soon excluded from various schools.

As problems at home continued Lucy’s drug habit did too.

Her involvement with Barnardo’s Palmersville project changed this and her educational route.

Lucy is now training to be a qualified beautician.

How Barnardo's helps

More than two-thirds of Barnardo’s projects involve education. They include:

  • alternative provision for young people at risk of exclusion
  • vocational training and work-based learning for 14-19 year olds
  • schools for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • life skills work, vital to gaining and holding down employment
  • children’s centres and other early years services

This work can only continue with your support.

Help us break the cycle for more children like Lucy >

Did you know?

For some children, such as those with mental health conditions, young carers and children in care, just turning up to school can be a challenge. These children need more support to prevent them becoming trapped in a cycle of disadvantage.
