Claire’s story*
The victim of domestic violence, Claire spent most of her childhood in care. By the time she was 16, Claire had a violent partner and was pregnant.
Through the help of Barnardo’s Marlborough Road Project, she soon gained the confidence to bring charges against her partner and is now concentrating on finding work and new safe accommodation.
How Barnardo's helps
Projects like Barnardo’s Marlborough Road offer support to children and young people who have been victims of abuse. This work includes:
- therapy and counselling
- helping children and young people protect themselves
- healing therapies for children who have been sexually exploited
- support to non-abusing parents to help them protect their children in the future
