Independent Visitor (PIVAS) Plymouth

Purpose of opportunity:
To be an Independent Visitor for our Plymouth Independent Visitor and Advocacy Service (PIVAS) to visit, befriend and advise a child or young person who is looked after by the Local Authority.
To provide a long-term supportive relationship to looked after children and young people.

Key activities:
Visiting a child or young person on a regular basis, as agreed, for a minimum of 1.5 hours (not including travelling time) to promote the health, well-being and best interests of the child or young person as outlined in their personal plan.

Attitude/skills/knowledge required:
Approachable, dependable, reliable, a sense of fun and possibly previous experience of working with children in care.
Male volunteers / Foreign Language and Disability skills are increasingly required

Training, support or other benefits available:
Barnardo's Induction Training.

Service Specific training

1:1 and Group Supervision (variable week days)

1:1 Support as and when required from Barnardo's project workers.

Further training as and when required.

Period covered by opportunity:
Ongoing - we are seeking a commitment of two years to ensure continuity and stability.
