Independent Visitor (PIVAS)

Purpose of opportunity:
'RECRUITMANT FOR SEPTEMBER 2016 INTAKE NOW CLOSED, NEXT VOLUNTEER INDUCTION & TRAINING COMMENCES FEBRUARY 2017 WITH AN APPLICANT'S WAITING LIST IN THE INTERIM'

To be an Independent Visitor for our Plymouth Independent Visitor and Advocacy Service (PIVAS) to visit, befriend and advise a child or young person who is looked after by the Local Authority.
To provide a long-term supportive relationship to looked after children and young people.

Key activities:
Visiting a child or young person on a regular basis, either weekly or fortnightly, for a minimum of 1.5 hours (not including travelling time) to promote the health, well-being and best interests of the child or young person as outlined in their care plan.

Attitude/skills/knowledge required:
Approachable, dependable, reliable, a sense of fun and possibly previous experience of working with children in care

Training, support or other benefits available:
Barnardo's Induction Training.
Service Specific training
1:1 and Group Supervision (variable week days)
1:1 Support as and when required from Barnardo's project workers.
Further training as and when required.

Ongoing - we are seeking a commitment of two years to ensure continuity and stability.
