BMER (Black Minority Ethnic and Refugee) Pyramid Plus Pilot

The Pyramid model helps children aged 7-11 years old fulfil their potential in school and in life by building their self esteem and resilience (the service is affiliated to Contynu - formally known as the National Pyramid Trust).

The service aims to reach as many children as possible to establish, for every child, a routine check of their emotional health needs so that difficulties can be tackled early and effectively.

The Pyramid Plus service is run in schools as a club. The routine check of emotional need is carried out using an established questionnaire by the class teacher. Then, a meeting is held to look at how the children can be helped and in particular, which 10 to 12 children would most benefit from the Pyramid Plus club.

The club lasts ten weeks and is run by trained project coordinators and volunteer Pyramid Plus leaders. The clubs offer a safe and fun filled space for children where they can be listened to, learn new skills and be supported to develop positive relationships with adults and peers.

We have been successful in accessing Project Funding in 2011 and 2012 to complete two pilots with particular focus on BMER children.

"For many children it is life-changing as they find their voice for the first time and blossom in school." (NPT Annual Report, 2003)
