Importance of child development in practice

“Understanding the development needs and transitions of individual children and young people will allow you to be more effective as a worker and to communicate better with them.” Children’s Workforce Development Council

Aim

To refresh and further develop an understanding of the theoretical and practice issues which are affected by the full range of child development, and to provide participants with necessary knowledge and skills which will improve the service they deliver to children, young people and their families – and ultimately improve their outcomes.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate their knowledge of the main themes and basic theories around child development
  • discuss and identify the importance of child development knowledge within good practice
  • identify the links with safeguarding, and current legislation and guidance e.g. Every Child Matters and National Standards
  • link theory to practice based evidence for improved outcomes
  • utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development.

This programme has been carefully designed to ensure it is directly linked to the Every Child Matters outcomes: Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive Contribution, Stay Safe, Be Healthy.
