What works in…Positive Parenting – Supporting and Developing Parenting Strategies

Aim

  • To support the development of effective parenting strategies that promotes social skills and emotional resilience within children and young people.
  • To enhance participants’ understanding of the internal and external influences on parents, and develop skills that reduces the negative impact of these.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • acknowledge the potential emotional impact upon workers, in order to support personal and practical effectiveness
  • understand, identify and demonstrate the development of skills in observation, assessment and analysis that link with providing the necessary direct work interventions that support the enabling of improved parenting
  • demonstrate facilitation skills that enable parents to respond flexibly to the challenges facing them within their home, and in the wider community
  • demonstrate and use a variety of direct work tools and strategies to support and improve parenting
  • utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development.
