What works in…Developing and Improving Parenting Capacity

Aim
To explore how practitioners can enable parents/carers to improve their parenting capacity to prevent family breakdown and facilitate opportunities for children and young people to achieve their potential
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- understand and demonstrate their knowledge on the dimension of ‘Parenting Capacity’ within their area of work
- understand, identify and demonstrate the development of skills in observation, assessment and analysis that link with providing the necessary direct work interventions that support the enabling of improved parenting capacity
- be able to apply knowledge of child development, parenting capacity, family and environment to ensure that direct work interventions applied are ‘fit for purpose’ and will achieve the desired outcome
- use a variety of direct work tools and strategies to support and improve parenting capacity
- utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development.
