What works in…Safeguarding Disabled Children and Young People who are supported in Foster Care (short & long term care)
The programme is designed to be run over two days to accommodate Foster Carer, Contract Carer and Short Break Carer’s responsibilities.
Aim
To provide an opportunity for Carers to come together to explore issues of disability and the abuse of disabled children.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the sessions Carers will be able to:
- discuss and reflect on factors that create vulnerability
- state what may cause confusion about signs and indicators of abuse in relation to disabled children and young people
- discuss the potential impact that child abuse may have on the Carer and identify support strategies
- identify the current issues in relation to research on the prevalence of abuse of disabled children
- demonstrate the importance and role of communication
- discuss how to empower disabled children
- utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development
