What works in…Equality and Diversity Awareness

This programme is aimed at staff with no supervisory or management responsibility

Aim

To increase participant’s knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues at legislative and practice levels, thus enabling staff to understand their role and responsibilities as individuals in embracing diversity and promoting equalities.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • state the organisation’s policies and procedures in relation to Equalities and Diversity
  • discuss the legislative framework around oppression and discrimination
  • discuss individual and institutionalised values, beliefs and culture
  • identify ways in which oppression and discrimination work, including the impact this has on individuals and groups
  • explore the issues around direct and indirect discrimination, including power dynamics, victimisation, harassment, sexual orientation, race, disability, religion and prejudice
  • practice challenging discrimination and inequalities
  • discuss and formulate an individual action plan to use within the workplace
  • utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development.

This programme has been carefully designed to ensure it is directly linked to the Every Child Matters outcomes: Stay Safe, Be Healthy, Make a positive contribution, Promote economic well being, Enjoy and Achieve.
