What works in…Beginning the Journey - Domestic Violence
Designed to raise basic awareness
Aim
To raise awareness and give deeper understanding of Domestic Violence; its impact and what issues and challenges do practitioners and services need to address to improve outcomes for children, young people and carers.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- describe what is meant by ‘Domestic Violence’ and have a greater understanding of its scale and incidence
- identify the range of experiences children have living with ‘Domestic Violence’
- explain why women/men stay with or return to abusive partners
- identify the connections between the abuse of women/men and the abuse of children
- clearly demonstrate the implications for safeguarding children, with reference to current policies, practices and provision relating to Domestic Violence
- demonstrate that they have explored the range of skills and practices required by services for safety planning with survivors of ‘Domestic Violence’
- identify issues raised by new legislation ‘Domestic Violence Crime and Victims’ bill
- utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development.
