What works in…Equality and Diversity Awareness

This programme is aimed at managers of all levels

Aim

To ensure that managers are aware of the organisation’s corporate objectives and their wider commitment to promoting Equality and Valuing Diversity; and to further enable them to gain an understanding of their roles and responsibilities, in embracing and embedding diversity and promoting equality, thus building this into their everyday management practice.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • discuss and reflect on factors that create vulnerability
  • state the organisation’s policies and procedures in relation to Equalities and Diversity
  • discuss the legislative framework around oppression and discrimination
  • discuss individual and institutionalised values, beliefs and culture, and to examine their influences on professional practice, and within the team
  • demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which oppression and discrimination work, including the possible impact on groups and individuals
  • examine and explain the significance of power dynamics and how they operate to empower and disempower individuals and groups.
  • explore and discuss equality and diversity issues from various perspectives
  • demonstrate how to challenge discrimination and inequalities
  • discuss and formulate an individual/team action plan to use within the workplace to evaluate targets and measure outcomes
  • utilise a frame work for reflective learning and continuing professional development.
