What we doimage for what we do page

If you have grounds to make a reference to the additional support needs tribunal for Scotland (ASNTS) then Take Note can provide you with access to an advocate to ensure that your views are heard and represented in all decision making processes.

We provide:

  • Independent Professional Advocacy
  • Legal advocacy
  • Information on where to get further advice.

Independent Professional Advocacy

Your advocate will be a person who has no connection with your situation or the decisions that affect you. They are paid employees of the Take Note Service.  This type of advocacy is often referred to as lay advocacy.

We have four part time advocates based across Scotland who are all line managed locally. You will be able to access the service of the advocate who is closest to where you live.

Legal advocacy

This is where your advocate is a qualified lawyer who is based at the Scottish Child Law Centre in Edinburgh. The lawyer will be available to provide advice to the Take Note Professional Advocates as well as advocate directly for Take Note service users in complex cases which proceed to a additional support needs tribunal.

Information on where to get further advice

The Scottish Child Law Centre will be able to provide you with contact details for other organisations who can provide you with information and advice in matters relating to the provision of additional support for learning.
