What we do

We provide play schemes and leisure clubs during evenings, after school, on weekends and during school holidays for children and young people who have complex learning disabilities with associated challenging behaviours, and physical disabilities, who live in the West Kent area.
Having been open since 2006, and receiving new funding from Aiming High for Disabled Children in 2009, we contine to develop our services in a variety of areas. We currently provide services to around sixty families.
Our holiday playschemes now run from Sunrise (Southborough) and rural locations in Cranbrook and Sevenoaks. We also provide a variety of weekend clubs in the above areas and in Tunbridge Wells, as well as a club where young people with physical disabilities enjoy community facilities in West Kent. A number of other voluntary organisations provide a variety of after-school clubs from Sunrise. A full list of our services is on our service leaflet, which you can download. Alternatively, contact us and we can send it to you.
The activities enhance the facilities available locally to young people with disabilities and compliment the services that are already provided by other agencies, both statutory and voluntary.

To ensure that the Sunrise Children’s Centre continues to develop the services that are most needed, we have an Advisory Group whose members include representatives from statutory agencies, local charitable groups and parents who use the centre. The staff and volunteers at the centre are working towards ensuring the young people have a meaningful contribution to the decisions that shape our services.
Barnardo’s have also been appointed by Kent County Council to review and monitor current evening, weekend and holiday clubs being provided and/or funded by them. We also support other local voluntary organisations who provide services for disabled children and young people.
