What we do
We aim to provide a care ratio of at least 1:1 in a safe, enjoyable and stimulating play environment. Working with experienced staff and well-trained volunteers, we hope to support all children and young people according to their individual needs. To help meet this goal, all our services run at different times and have their own criteria. Unless otherwise stated, our services are mostly aimed at those children and young people who have complex learning disabilities with associated communication difficulties and the potential for challenging behaviour.
Our playschemes run during all school half-terms and holidays. These services run from Sunrise, as well as community locations in Sevenoaks and Cranbrook. One day a week at Sunrise is usually set aside for children and young people who use wheelchairs and may have complex medical needs.
This club runs once every two weeks at Sunrise, 5.30 – 7.30pm, for young people aged 14-18. We aim to provide a “Youth Club” feel where young people can develop social skills while having fun and enjoying a range of activities.
At Wednesday Club, which meets every two weeks at 5 – 7pm at Sunrise, children and young people aged 8-13 are introduced to a new activity every week with a “being healthy” theme.
Sevenoaks & Cranbrook Weekend Clubs
Once a month on a Saturday (Sevenoaks) and Sunday (Cranbrook) 10am – 2pm, children and young people aged 8-18 join us for a club nearby to their homes in these rural locations.
One Saturday a month at 10am – 2pm, this is a service for children aged 4-8 who use wheelchairs and may have complex medical needs. Ravensrise 1 is a Sunrise service that takes place at our sister project Ravensdale in Tunbridge Wells, where the facilities are more suited to younger children.
One Sunday a month at 10am – 2pm, this service is intended for children aged 4-8 whose learning disabilities and communication difficulties are more complex, and who have a higher potential for displaying challenging behaviour. Ravensrise 2 is a Sunrise service that takes place at our sister project Ravensdale in Tunbridge Wells, where the facilities are more suited to younger children.
Once a month at 10am – 2pm, this service is intended for those children and young people aged 8-16 whose learning disabilities and communication difficulties are more complex, and who have a higher potential for displaying challenging behaviour. This club takes place at Sunrise.
One Saturday a month, Community Club usually takes place 10am – 3pm and meets for a different activity in a different location each time. The children and young people (aged 8-18) help plan the activities they would like to do. Examples have included ice skating, trips to London, shopping and the cinema. Community Club is for children and young people who use wheelchairs and who may have complex medical needs.
If you are interested in leisure activities for your disabled child but are not sure if any of the above services will meet your needs, please contact us to discuss this. We are a signposting service and will be happy to try and help you find an alternative.
If your son or daughter’s needs are less complex, you may wish to express an interest in the Holiday Activities service that we operate in partnership with other local groups.
