Linda Nelson (School Principal)

As school Principal it is my job to oversee both care and education of young people who attend Spring Hill School. The most important part of my job is making sure that the young people receive a high quality of care and education.

No one day at Spring Hill School is the same and I have many different jobs to do. One of the best parts of my job is attending Annual Review Meetings as this gives the school an opportunity to let people know how well a young person is getting on and progressing.  All young people are supported and encouraged to attend their annual review meetings. I also attend meetings outside of school, sometimes this is to try and develop links wth other places so that we can offer our young people the best opportunities and experiences.

A big part of my job is checking that we are doing a good job, meeting each young persons needs and developing things which would make the school even better.  This involves things like watching staff at work, talking to staff and young people and checking our policies and procedures.

Although there is always lots of things to be done I still have time to see the young people at work and play and am always available for a chat.

Linda Jude (Deputy Principal)

My job is to make sure that everything which happens during the school day runs smoothly. I am also responsible for behaviour management during the school day, the curriculum and the staffing of classrooms.

I organise many of the educational and sporting trips which the young people participate in and I liaise with people from outside the school who come in to give concerts, talks or sports coaching. It is very important that I work closely with the Head of Care and I also consult with the residential Unit Managers on a daily basis so that the educational and care sides of the school work well together.

Excellent relationships between staff and pupils foster a climate of mutual respect. Ofsted report 2009

Lynn Johnson (Head of Care)

To be a Head of Care you have to be registered with Ofsted as The Registered Manager.  I am also a registered Social Worker with the General Social Care Council. I was a nurse after leaving school, then came into Social Work and took qualifications in this field and in Care Management. I have worked with children for over 25 years.

It is crucial that our students are given every opportunity to learn and grow and only when they feel safe and happy can they truly develop to their full potential. It is my job to ensure that the care staff and residential environments provide a high quality of consistent care and appropriate stimulation. I love my job!

Art Therapist

My name is Julie Procter. I am an Art Psychotherapist and I work at Spring Hill School 3 days a week.

I help the young people to untangle their emotional chaos which then helps them to regain control of their feelings. I see young people who have difficulty managing their feelings and behaviour. In the weekly one to one therapy sessions, the young people use the art materials to help them to express and communicate their feelings. It is often easier to do this, than talking about how they feel. The artwork is safely stored in-between sessions.

All young people at Spring Hill School are able to access Art Therapy if they need emotional help. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service team come to Springhill School every month. 3 young people are referred for discussion and consultation about their mental health.

Spring Hill School also run a Behavioural Management Meeting every other week in school. This is to discuss a young person's problematic behaviour and to consider coping strategies for staff to manage a YP's behaviour.
