Making a positive contribution

The school encourages young people to make a positive contribution to life both within the school and in the local community.
Contributing to school life
We encourage young people to become involved in the decision making process within the school through residential unit meetings and the School Council.
Young people have been influential in developing areas of the school such as new play equipment, lighting down the drive and after school activities
Young people are also encouraged to attend and contribute to their annual review and their daily records.
Contributing to the community
We have a range of links with other organisations such as other schools, colleges, local charities, employers and Sea Cadets.
We encourage young people to take responsibility for and get involved in areas such as conserving the environment. Young people at the school have worked towards achieving an Eco School Award through developing the school’s recycling systems.
The school promotes equality of opportunity throughout and has a clear Community Cohesion Policy (PDF, 37KB) and action plan.
This aspect of the school was judged as outstanding in the OFSTED inspection December 2008:
There is a positive approach taken to encouraging the children and young people to make decisions about their lives and to influence the way the school operates.
