Keeping safe

Student drawing with teacher at Barnardo's Spring Hill School

Keeping children safe is a fundamental aspect of our work at Spring Hill School.

Students

All young people have an individual care plan and an individual risk assessment which reflects their needs, abilities and levels of understanding. Within the education curriculum we address issues such as:

  • road safety
  • stranger danger
  • drug misuse
  • sex and relationships.

All of these issues are re-enforced across the 24 hour curriculum.

The school carries out environmental risk assessments as well as risk assessments for activities both within and outside the school.

Staff

All members of staff within the school are subject to a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check prior to taking up post. In addition, all staff receive annually updated training on child protection and keeping children and young people safe.

The support given to pupils to help them understand how to keep themselves safe is exceptional. Much of this centres on pupils being able to understand and successfully control their emotions and responses. They are enabled to make senseible decisions in dealing with others.  Ofsted report 2009
