Education and care
At Spring Hill School we pride ourselves on our flexible approach to providing our students with high quality education and care appropriate to their individual needs.
We provide personalised care to support each individual pupil while cultivating a stimulating and challenging educational environment designed to help each pupil to achieve their full potential and prepare them for life after school.
We offer:
- small class sizes – each class contains a maximum of eight pupils, staffed according to need
- expert staff – all our staff have achieved or are working towards completion of the NVQ Level 3 Award in Health and Social Care
- a range of accredited courses – from pre-entry level to GCSE
- a therapeutic ethos – supported by our Art Psychotherapist and our local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team
- 24 hour education and care provision
- behaviour management and individual care plans – tailored to support each individual pupil.
Our curriculum
Our curriculum is tailored to the needs of each individual pupil and where appropriate this includes a strong emphasis on the development of basic literacy, numeracy and ICT.
We offer a wide range of vocational training and have excellent links with careers guidance services. This is vital to help us to consider placements and future opportunities for our students. Our Post 16 department is a strength of the school and we work hard to ensure that our pupils are well placed to achieve their full potential once they have left our school.
To enhance our curriculum we draw on our excellent community links to provide a variety of extra-curricular activities. These activities include organised in-school events as well as external events such as swimming, sea cadets, youth clubs and first aid.
Teaching is good, well tailored to individual pupils' needs and so pupils make good progress. Some make exceptional progress. Relationships between teachers and pupils are excellent. Teachers are highly skilled in managing pupils' behaviour and create a good atmosphere for learning. Ofsted report 2009
