What we do

Volunteering often conjures up images of old ladies ‘doing good work’ but the reality is often very different. Voluntary organisations are at the cutting edge of social change, challenging the status quo and delivering support to communities where it is most needed. If you really want to make a difference, volunteering for Barnardo’s in partnership with Source is the perfect way to do it!

Our volunteers are committed to providing an outstanding service to everyone they make contact with. This is often young people, their families and even professionals who work with children and young people in Reading. We recognise that the misuse of drugs, whether legal or illegal, can damage individuals, families and communities. We strive to offer information, guidance and support in a way that is meaningful and effective.

We draw on the unique skills, knowledge and experience that volunteers can offer. By involving volunteers, we can improve the lives of the children, young people, their families and the wider community. Volunteers can be anyone over 16 years old who can demonstrate the necessary skills to work with young people around the issues of drugs and alcohol. All volunteers are screened with an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check and are offered ongoing training and support to ensure they are equipped to work with children and young people.
