Q. What areas of work are volunteers involved in?
A. We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated people to help in the following roles:
- delivering drug education / training
- promoting Barnardo’s and Source
- outreach work
- providing holistic support to young people
- consultation and participation activities with young people
- co-running groups
- administrative support.
Q. Do volunteers have to specialise in one of the above areas?
A. Not at all, we are happy to be flexible. You could specialise or do a bit of everything, it’s up to you.
Q. Is there a minimum commitment needed?
A. We ask that you commit to regular volunteering over a period of six months.
Q. What can be gained from volunteering with Barnardo’s in partnership with Source?
A. Besides the warm fuzzy feeling, volunteering is a great way to:
- make new friends
- learn and develop skills
- develop knowledge of substance misuse
- gain a better understanding of Reading and its people
- make a real difference to young people, their families and the communityfeel like you are doing something worthwhile
- provide reassurance to our service users that they are important, and that people care.
