In their words
A is 12 years old and lives with her mother who has a life long illness, and her two younger brothers in Birmingham. She is involved with the Young Carers Group at Barnardo's SOFALLI Project and has been coming to the group for a year.
A enjoys coming to the group and because she has no sisters at home she appreciates having the company of the other girls in the group and doing things that girls like to do. She is a very sociable child and gets on well with the other children in the group and staff. She has a mature outlook on life because she has to take a lot of responsibility at home, sometimes caring for her mother and younger brother especially when mum is feeling unwell.
A’s first language is not English, which is something else she has had to overcome; she has however coped with this and is doing well at school. A has quite a number of friends that she has made since joining the group and is highly thought of.
