How we can help
We have a variety of initiatives that support the children, young people and families we work with:
Direct Work with children, young people, parents, young carers and adult carers
Our Paediatric Social Worker is based at a Heartlands Hospital Paediatric Clinic. The services are:
- providing a case work service for children, young people and families supported by the Clinic
- work that prepares and supports families to discuss the diagnosis
- work with individuals and groups of children and young people to help them gain increasing knowledge and understanding of the diagnosis as they develop.
Our Project Workers based at the SOFALLI project in Birmingham City Centre, offer individual work working young people, parents, young carers and adult carers, which can include:
- support, information, advice and counselling
- practical assistance to access additional resources
- assistance to contact other services and agencies
- applications for financial support for individuals in need.
Parent and Carer Groups
Group Work - provides opportunities to make friends, share experiences and support each other through activities, outings and discussion sessions
Speak Easy – workshops for parents/carers to support the sharing of information about sensitive issues
Children and Young People Groups:
Groups are available for children and young people from 5-18 years old who are affected, living with life long illness. The groups meet mainly during school holidays for a range of activities and outings.
Young Carers support activities and weekend residential opportunities are available
