Work with Parents and Carers of Young People (Lighthouse and Skylight)
Parents and carers may experience considerable pressure and stress when a young person in their care has experienced sexual abuse and/or displayed harmful sexual behaviour. Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children and young people to heal and to address and change their behaviour. In order to do so, however, they are often in need of support themselves.
Through work with parents and carers, we aim to help develop an understanding of why the behaviours may have occurred and to help make plans to support the young person to prevent the behaviour from happening again. Additionally, parents may need support to come to terms with the behaviour of their child and our parent work services aim to provide a safe and supportive space for parents and carers to discuss their own reactions to recent events.
