Pupils benefit from a balanced curriculum that is tailored to their needs and participate in a range of activities outside lesson time. We encourage positive attitudes to learning and celebrate the success of our pupils.

Spring Hill is keen to pursue contacts with the local community, particularly during evening and weekend activities. Recent trips out include:

  • Ripon City Youth Club
  • Attendance at Army Cadets and St Johns Ambulance
  • Sports clubs
  • Theatrical puppet show and workshop
  • Visit from fire service
One pupil said, ‘My behaviour has improved so much my mum hardly recognises me when I go home. I have been here five years and enjoyed every minute of it’.

We also make the most of interesting places and leisure activities in the local area. Pupils have visited the Yorkshire Dales, the coast, cinemas and bowling alleys as well as some old favourites such as Brymore’s ice cream factory.

Depending on their ability, pupils are given the opportunity to gain their Green Badge in ‘accessing the community’. This helps to develop independence and social skills as pupils gradually interact more with the local community. Upon achieving this badge, the young person has the necessary social and safety skills to go into town independently.
