Behaviour policy

At Meadows School we aim to promote change to a pupil’s behaviour through a supportive educative environment, a stimulating curriculum and the setting of high achievable personal goals. We plan for pupils to achieve success which promotes positive behaviour and raises self esteem and feelings of self worth.

At Meadows we believe in rewarding positive behaviour. We provide guidance for breaches of conduct. Persistent rule breaking may lead to the application of sanctions. Fixed exclusion or permanent exclusion may be a considered option.

The pupils at Meadows occasionally place themselves and others at risk. All staff are trained in ‘Therapeutic Crisis Intervention’; this provides a framework for conflict resolution. We recognise that on occasions physical intervention may be required to help a child regain self control.

Anti–bullying statement

'The anti-bullying policy was found to be known and understood by all of the staff and young people spoken to', CSCI report

Meadows School is totally opposed to bullying in any of its forms and it will not be tolerated in school. We have a comprehensive anti-bullying policy which operates within Meadows. All pupils, parents and staff are made aware of the content of the policy and what to do should a pupil feel they are being bullied. We are committed to providing a safe, caring environment for all pupils so they can learn in a relaxed and secure environment.

Child protection statement

Meadows School follows the ‘Barnardo’s Child Protection Policy and Procedures’. We believe that the needs of the child are of paramount importance and provide the opportunity for a safe, stimulating, educational experience. Where appropriate the school will work in partnership with statutory bodies in order to ensure the safety of the child.

Anti-Discrimination statement

We believe that all individuals have a right to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of the differences between them in age, gender, marital status, race, sexuality, religion, culture, language or disability.

We will make every effort to work in an anti-discriminatory manner, challenging attitudes and behaviours that disadvantage individuals and/or groups in this school.

Everyone in Meadows is expected to behave in a way that acknowledges differences positively and not in a way that excludes, humiliates and damages.

Complaints procedure

The complaints procedure is available from the school office and is discussed at the pupil admission partnership meeting.

CSCI & OFSTED assessments of the school

CSCI and OFSTED are two governing groups which inspect the school at different intervals, to ensure a good standard of education and appropriate levels of care. For information on the latest assessments, click here.
