Snakes and Ladders
Do you want to hear directly from children and young people about the key issues they identify as being important? Would you like to get others to understand what it feels like to be excluded? If so then this training could be for you!

Barnardo's Scotland has developed a unique interactive and experiential training pack based upon a Snakes and Ladders approach. In this version there are no counters – YOU jump from square to square, climb up the ladders and slide down the snakes. The training is normally co-facilitated by children/young people and provides a powerful emotive way of understanding what it feels like to experience ‘exclusion’ and evidences the importance of involving service users in decision making processes.

Using a 10ft x 10ft Snakes and Ladders board, the training also provides participants with an opportunity to:
- increase their awareness of the issues affecting the lives of children and young people
- critically access their own role in helping children and young people overcome the ‘snakes’
- discuss how the Snakes and Ladders approach can work within their own setting.
The Snakes and Ladders training and resource is available throughout the UK and is aimed at any agency whose remit has an impact on the lives of children and young people. The following options are available:
- 2 hour training session for up to 30 participants. The cost of the session is normally £300 not including travel and accommodation if required.
- The pack is available for purchase at £615 + vat.
- Shorter sessions suitable for conferences and seminars can be arranged upon request.
