Barnardo's RAFT Service

Barnardo’s RAFT Service is located in Edinburgh and is one of the many Barnardo’s projects in Scotland which works directly with looked after children; that is children who are under the care of a local authority.

The RAFT Service provides a residential placement to children of primary school age in Edinburgh who for a variety of reasons do not live with their birth family and at that stage in their lives are not ready to be placed with a foster family or return to their birth family.

The service is funded by Edinburgh City Council and staffed and managed by Barnardo’s Scotland.

At the RAFT service, we aim to make a difference to the lives of children, young people and their families , through meeting our core aims which are;

  • to provide children with a period of stability in their lives and continuity of care which is safe and unconditional but which has clear and consistent boundaries
  • to support the children in expressing any emotional distress in a safe, supportive and caring environment
  • to provide support to children through the process of moving them on to their next and hopefully final placement
