Children's Champions Awards

The Children’s Champions Awards are prestigious honours to celebrate people who go the extra mile to make a positive difference to the lives of our kids.

The Children’s Champions Awards are a partnership between Barnardo's and the News of the World and supported by the Post Office, with whom Barnardo’s has a long-term partnership.

The awards – which fall into eight categories - will honour the people that members of the public think have done a brilliant, unsung job for children over the last year. It may be anyone from a brilliant teacher to a school dinner lady, a life-saving doctor to a member of the emergency services or a fabulous foster mum.

Barnardo's has been involved with the Children’s Champions Awards since it started seven years ago. There is even a dedicated Barnardo’s award for an exceptional Barnardo's worker.

Nominations are open from now until the end of February, with the glittering awards ceremony to take place on March 3, 2010 at a top London hotel, where the winners will receive prizes from top celebrities.

Dr David Barnardo, the great-great nephew of Thomas Barnardo, is thrilled to be on the celebrity judging panel again this year:

Barnardo’s has been at the forefront of caring for young people for more than 100 years and during that time we’ve made amazing strides to help children to turn their lives around.

The Children’s Champions awards are a way to celebrate people who have made a vast difference to the lives of children. This could be through an act of tremendous courage, bravery or just simply never giving up on them. Barnardo's is delighted to be at the heart of these awards to recognise the incredible people that do extraordinary things to improve the lives of children.

2009 Children's Champions winner

Read about the winner of last year's Barnardo's award, Doug Easterbrook and winner of the judges special award, Nicola Abraham.

Barnardo’s has been at the forefront of caring for young people for more than 100 years. We’ve campaigned heavily to end child poverty, changed the perception of children from being seen as child prostitutes but rather sexually exploited children, and currently, we’re calling for children at risk of getting into trouble not to be demonised but seen as children in great need of support.

The awards are a way to show how people who work with children or whose paths have crossed children’s have made a vast difference to their lives. This could be through an act of tremendous courage, bravery or just simply never giving up on them.

That's exactly what Children's Champions seeks to reward - ordinary people doing extraordinary things for some of the most vulnerable in our society - our children.
