Michelle shines spotlight on Truro charity shop

Michelle Collins

Actress Michelle Collins joined us to celebrate the success of our Cornish fundraising shops this week, visiting Barnardo's Truro store.

Michelle, a Barnardo’s Ambassador presented certificates of appreciation to Barnardo’s staff and volunteers for their help in raising thousands of pounds every year to support disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

Barnardo’s shop manager Gareth Lawrence said:

We are delighted that Michelle met our staff and volunteers. We now have 21 stores across the South West, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds every year to support our valuable work. But none of this would be possible without our volunteers. We are always looking for people willing to help with sorting stock, arranging displays and working behind the till. They can offer whatever days and hours are convenient. We hope this visit will encourage even more people to support our shops across the county.

I am very grateful to have been invited to celebrate the success of the Truro team. Dr Thomas Barnardo died more than a century ago but even now - after all this time – the charity is still working to protect children from the effects of poverty, abuse and discrimination. The old orphanages have been replaced by work taking place out in the community and in people’s own homes, but the charity’s purpose remains the same – to help children to transform their lives and fulfil their potential but all this work comes at a cost, which is why shops like these are so important.
