Stars get to The Hub of the Matter
Daniel Craig, Dame Helen Mirren and Barnardo’s Ambassador Kevin Pietersen visited young people at The Hub, Barnardo’s new training centre in Stepney Green, London earlier this year. The centre teaches plumbing, decorating, and carpentry to the ‘lost generation’ of young people not in education, employment or training.
Kevin said:
It was great chatting to the kids, they are really talented and enthusiastic. Many of them used to bunk off from school, or get into trouble with the police and with Barnardo’s support they are turning their lives around - it’s inspiring to see.
After meeting the teenagers, Daniel said:
All youngsters should have access to training like this. The volume of work they produce in a matter of weeks, the confidence this gives them and the rapport they have with tutors is inspiring.
After talking with the young people, Helen said:
You could tell they had pride in their new skills and a sense of teamwork and community.’
